The Cape Town Cycle Tour - 08 Mar 2026

It’s time to secure your place in the world’s largest timed cycling event. On Sunday, 8 March 2026, thousands of riders will line up for the 48th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, taking on either the iconic 109 km route or the shorter but equally spirited 42 km route.

A Global Celebration of Cycling
Recognised as one of the world’s biggest timed mass participation cycling events, the Cape Town Cycle Tour continues to attract cyclists from across the globe to experience the beauty of the Cape on two wheels. In 2026, the event will make history by joining the prestigious UCIGran Fondo World Series, the world’s leading series of Gran Fondo cycling events, which features over 35 races across the globe each year. Cape Town Cycle Tour participants will now have the opportunity to qualify for the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, set to take place from 26 to 30 August in Niseko, Japan.

This milestone firmly places the Cape Town Cycle Tour among the top international cycling events, further cementing its reputation as a world-class experience for riders of all levels.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde adds, “This is going to be great for Cape Town, the Western Cape, and all of us here in South Africa. The Cape Town Cycle Tour has always been a proud showcase of our province’s spirit, and this international recognition will only strengthen our reputation as a world-class sporting destination.”

“It’s an incredible honour to announce that the Cape Town Cycle Tour has been officially recognised as a UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifying event. This will see riders from around the globe experience the breathtaking beauty of Cape Town while earning their chance to compete at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.” Says Bob Verbeeck, CEO of Golazo.

Partnership with Golazo
The Cape Town Cycle Tour will benefit from the expertise and international reach of Golazo, an international sports and events agency with extensive experience in producing large-scale events across Europe and Africa.

This partnership will enhance the event’s global profile and attract even more international participants eager to experience the beauty of the Cape province on two wheels.
Golazo has organised hundreds of world-class sporting events, including the UCI Road World Championships (2021), the African Cycling Championships (2024), and the Diamond League athletics meeting in Brussels.

With a strong focus on promoting active, healthy lifestyles, Golazo’s experience in managing market-leading mass participation events such as the UCI Gran Fondo Series and UCI World Gravel Series makes it an ideal partner to elevate the Cape Town Cycle Tour’s standing on the global stage.
“We are honoured to partner with the Cape Town Cycle Tour to further enhance this iconic event and share its unique spirit with a global audience. Together, we aim to elevate the experience for every rider while showcasing the remarkable beauty and energy of Cape Town to cyclists around the world.” Says Bruce Parker-Forsyth, CEO of Golazo South Africa.

A Festival of Cycling
“The Cape Town Cycle Tour is more than just a timed race; it is a celebration of health, community, and the sheer joy of cycling, all on fully closed roads,” says David Bellairs, CEO of the Cape Town Cycle Tour. “Every year we see new riders join, seasoned cyclists return, and international visitors marvel at the route’s beauty. 2026 will be no different, it promises to be another unforgettable edition of this truly iconic event.”
