On Cycle Tour Sunday, you get to ride around a beautiful city without having to worry about motor vehicles. Why rush to finish, then?
Since 1978, the Cape Town Cycle Tour has been taking cyclists young and old on a journey around the Cape Peninsula. The route has changed slightly over the years, it’s been shortened on one occasion and re-routed a few times, but what has remained consistent for almost half a century is the Cycle Tour’s ability to attract the widest variety of bike riders to Cape Town every March. The Cycle Tour, whether you’re returning to beat a personal best or simply coming along for the ride, is the cycling gift that keeps on giving. With a route that boasts Cape Town’s natural beauty and a behind-the-scenes team that prides itself on putting together the world’s greatest cycling show, the Cape Town Cycle Tour has stood the test of time and continues to go from strength to strength. Join us for a race, a ride, or simply a great day out on the bike with thousands of like-minded souls.
About UsOne of the enduring aspects of the Cape Town Cycle Tour is the enthusiastic crowd support along the route. For every level of rider, racing along streets and roads packed with crowds enhances the Cycle Tour experience, giving the event a truly thrilling atmosphere. If you have friends or family participating, we highly recommend that you join in the fun and start cheering! Our top tips for spectator spots include Wynberg Hill, where in recent years the crowds have created a truly electrifying buzz as they pack the pavement; anywhere along the M3, but particularly towards Tokai, and the seaside locations of Muizenberg and Kalk Bay, where raucous locals are never shy of shouting encouragement. On the back half of the route, Noordhoek Farm Village, Hout Bay, Suikerbossie and the home stretch through Camps Bay are all excellent locations for a day of Cycle Tour watching!
